Number Slate is an average online DVD rental service that offers a free, trial membership, giving you the chance to try them out before signing up. Upon doing so, we found Number Slate is missing many features that other online DVD rental companies offer, including previews, critic reviews and the option to purchase movies. Number Slate also had fewer search capabilities and no 'Coming Soon' or 'New Release' sections.
One of the things that annoyed us about Number Slate is that they turn you into their shipping department. This is how it works: You receive a DVD and when you're done with it, you notify Number Slate and then they send you the address and nickname of the next person in line for that movie. You then have to write the new address on the package, put your own stamp on it and then mail it. Although this may allow them to keep their prices down, it costs their members money for stamps and time. We also felt this system can slow down retrieval time and allows strangers to have your address, of which some people may be leery.
Also there is only one plan available to join with Number Slate, which they claim is a cheaper way to rent DVDs online, but for the same price you can join our #1 pick Netflix.
