In a daring move today Netflix announced that it will be restructuring (raising prices) on their additional monthly charge for Blu-ray discs.

Nexflix members were greeting with an email this morning explain the new pricing structure for Blu-ray discs will be seen on your monthly bill on or after April 27. The new Blu-ray plan is tiered and your additional cost is dependent on the plan to which you subscribe.

For example, the unlimited 1 DVD a month plan has a $2 a month Blu-ray sin tax, the unlimited 2 discs at a time has a $3 sin tax, and so on.

And to think it was only October when Netflix announced they were only charging an extra dollar ($1) for Blu-ray on all plans.

The Netflix email claims the price is attributed to their need to grow their current Blu-ray collection and to offset the more expensive cost of Blu-ray discs because they are "substantially more expensive than standard definition DVDs." (their words not ours)
